GTA 6 will reportedly need around 210GB of storage, according to shattered.io. The same outlet says the much scarier 676.7GB number circulating online is fake.
With launch less than three weeks away, file size has become one of the most common questions from players who already have the game pre-ordered. Nobody wants to boot up their console on release day only to find they need to wipe half their library first.
What we know about the GTA 6 install size
Right now this is a reported figure, not an official number from Rockstar Games. Shattered.io lists 210GB as the size that has been reported and flags the 676.7GB claim as fabricated. Until the size shows up on the official PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store listings, treat it with some caution — that is usually where the final number gets confirmed.
That said, 210GB is a believable size for an open world of this scale, and far more plausible than a download close to 700GB, which would have been a problem for many consoles running on their built-in storage.
Observatorio Blockchain, a Spanish outlet, has also reported the 210GB figure and warns that many consoles will run short on storage, though it does not say where the number comes from either. That makes two outlets with the same figure, but there is still no confirmation from Rockstar Games or Take-Two.
Preload and release times
File size goes hand in hand with another big question: when can you start downloading, and when can you start playing? Push Square has put together a guide covering GTA 6 release times and preload. If the game really is around 210GB, preloading matters: on an average connection, pulling down that much data on launch day could take hours.
What it means for you
GTA 6 is still set for November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. To be ready on day one:
- Clear space now. Aim for a bit more than 210GB, since day-one patches tend to add to the total.
- Ignore viral numbers without a source. The 676.7GB claim is a textbook example of a figure that spread with nothing behind it.
- Watch for the preload. As soon as it opens, start the download so you are not stuck waiting at launch.
We will update this story once Rockstar or the official stores confirm the final GTA 6 file size.
